Throughout august the main jobs were fitting the breathable membrane to the roof once we had finished the sarking and trying to keep it on as you may recall August was a pretty windy month hence the strapping fixed in no particular order....

Battening out the inside of the house was particularly onerous as it seemed like a forth road bridge job(never ending). But we got there and as per usual my gaffer in the shape of my daughter was there to keep me right and make sure I was leaving 400mm centres.

We are using Fermacell on the walls in the place of Plasterboard. Its the same size of sheets but a great deal stronger and made of a fibreboard which can support cupboards, radiators etc without the need for dwangs, or noggins to them in the know! More on this later but for now fermacell needs 400mm centres as opposed to plasterboard needing 600mm centres.(in case anyone was questioning my spacing!)

Slates have arrived all lovely and purple in autumn sun. We have decided to go for Welsh slate having pondered this finish for a long time. If you are local to this area may I recommend calling Fred at GPH in inverurie. Fund of knowledge on slates and products, very helpful and always obliging. You will find the details on the contacts section of this site.

Couldn't help but give this picture an airing Jen's brother andy, and two of my mates who gave up their time on occasion to help out. Today's task was fitting a bank of six skylights into the roof complete with flashing's....
Just check out the look on Joe's face, filled me with complete confidence that he knew what he was doing!!!
However they made a great job and the skylights have not leaked yet ...Great job Lads!

Our window supplier Dynamite Internorm have caused us a fair bit of hassle over our set of four sliding doors, which has turned out to be a set of three doors and fixed door. In the picture below there are two sets of sliding doors either side of the fixed glazed panel. The set of four are to the left, with the set of three to the right.
Our idea was that we wanted to be able to open up this corner bringing the "outside in". Because of the steel beams in this gable it was impossible to have a continued sliding door in this corner so we opted for a set of 4 doors, the glazed panel as shown and a set of three doors. Initially Internorn wanted to fit patio style doors in where the glazed panel is, which in my mind would of looked pretty stupid when the sliding doors were opened, so we turned that option down and gave our reasons why.
So what did we get? Two sets of three sliding doors and a fixed door which opens in on the glazed panel .... Great!!! (That is the reason for the bit of 2x1 batten fixed to the glazed panel so we can't damage the glass by the door flying open.)

We are told there is nothing can be done and that the door was too expensive to change!!!
In my view Dynamight Internorm sell a great product but the communication lets them down fully. They obviously don't listen for a start and find out what the customer requires, and furthermore when problems arise throw it back to the customer with a shrug of their shoulders.

The lesson here I suppose, is always double check when placing an order that you are definatly going to get what you require. Never leave it to chance that your supplier knows exactly what you require, even though that appears to be the case. I am taking legal advice!
